Passport Leaders Offer Solution

In a previous post, I pointed out the success of Passport Health Plan, particularly in comparison to the Medicaid program administered by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. In this morning’s CJ, Larry N. Cook, M.D., the Chancellor of the Health Science Center and Allan Tasman, M.D., a faculty member and chair of the Department Psychiatry, provide a more thorough and logical argument for expanding Passport.

Dr. Cook was the early Champion for Medicaid Managed Care in the greater Louisville area. Before becoming Chancellor, he chaired the Department of Pediatrics where he saw first hand the need to manage the Medicaid population. By any measure, Passport has been a success and a model for the rest of the Commonwealth.

Perhaps the Cabinet for Health and Family Services is working to expand Passport. If not, one has to wonder what’s going on over there.
